Katherine Gense
Katherine Genser is a veteran teacher and artist who currently works with general and advanced middle grade visual art students at Moore. She has taught at both the high school and middle school levels and has worked in the Central cluster since joining GCPS. She is a founding faculty member of Moore Middle School.
Ms. Genser comes from a ten year background in commercial art and has provided artwork for a range of companies and private clients including Target, the Home Depot, the YMCA and Adult Swim. She earned her BFA in illustration at The Savannah College of Art & Design, her teaching certification with a concentration in Sculpture and Installation at Georgia State University and her MA in Art and Design at Kennesaw State University. Throughout her career she has participated in a variety of art exhibitions in the Savannah, Atlanta and Athens areas. Her work was last featured in the group show Uncanny in the fall of 2024 in Athens, Georgia.
Ms. Genser’s students have been celebrated in many art shows throughout the years and have been awarded recognition from both local and national competitions. Highlights include the Scholastic Art Awards, the Reflections Art Show, the Shutter Sense & Nonsense Photography Juried Competition, the Lawrenceville Ebony Society MLK Day Art Show, the High Museum of Art Middle School Showcase, The SOTA Fall Art Show, The K-8 Central Cluster Juried Art Show and GCPS’s yearly Tapestry Art Show.
Extending beyond the classroom, Ms. Genser is a member of GAEA and NAEA and was president of the student chapter of NAEA during her time at Georgia State University. She has also served as a judge for the southeast region of the Scholastic Art Awards and has presented at the Fall GAEA state conference. In addition to teaching, Ms. Genser currently volunteers as a Fine Arts mentor to new visual art teachers in GCPS, is the PAGE representative for Moore Middle School and sponsors a weekly Art Club for students.
